Before arriving in Erris, I imagined a place that would be full of thatched cottages, stuck in a quaint time warp of de Valera style comely maidens dancing at cross roads, far from the madding intrusion of 21st century technology. Over the past five years, I have become more familiar with Erris through photographing its geographical and interpersonal landscapes. My fascination with the area inspired me to investigate how the people there lived. The reality is somewhat different from the place I had imagined. I found a West of Ireland that was modern, technologically aware and socially networked - but a West of Ireland that still maintains the stunning, quaint and visual elements that we associate with it,along with its traditional welcome. More

The weather might not be what we would like for the summer, but the OPEN SUMMER EXHIBITION at the Solas Gallery in Ballinamore is guaranteed to help raise the spirits. Opening on Fri 20th July, this exhibition is open to all artists, members and non members. As usual the response to this show has been immense and there will be over 60 pictures to enjoy on your visit to the gallery. This exhibition has been selected by a panel and as every year the standard of the submissions gets higher, so the quality of the exhibition increases.
