Taylor Galleries
Taylor Galleries is delighted to present New Paintings, an exhibition of recent work by Charles Tyrrell that opens at the gallery with a private view on Thursday 7 June 2012 and runs until 14 July 2012.
Following on the success of Tyrrell's exhibition of large scale work co-hosted by Solstice Arts Centre, Navan and the Crawford Gallery, Cork in 2011 (a selection of which was exhibited in the RHA later the same year), his new exhibition of paintings at Taylor Galleries sees a drastic shift in scale to more modestly sized work. He has, to some degree, broken away from a painting procedure that was often detached and programmatic to embrace a more intimate painterly approach while still working within an abstract minimalist arena. A focal point of the Arcadia Festival which took place in June, From Bray with Love is a curated exhibition which takes a closer look at Bray's international standing as one of the major holiday destinations in Ireland. With the extension of the railway to Bray in 1854, Bray took off as a popular holiday resort, particularly with day-trippers from Dublin, and became the largest Irish seaside resort at the time. From Bray with Love features photographs documenting Bray's success and travel posters designed to entice tourists to Bray and county Wicklow and highlighting the merit that Bray was given as a holiday resort, with the town standing tall alongside Killarney and Connemara as a must-see place to visit when in Ireland. In an invitation to inhabit a story from 122 years ago of the Cattlemen's invasion of Wyoming, Brian Duggan's 'Everything can be done, in principle' evokes Heaven's Gate (a film made by Michael Cimino in 1980) through place, costume and activity—transporting VISUAL Carlow visitors into a timber and canvas barn at America's 19th century mid western frontier. Duggan asks the participant to skate—to imagine the happiness of a community of immigrants fraught with difficulties in their new lives, but able to shake off the dirt and corruption in this heavenly place of elegance and exuberance. Inductive Probability is a survey of work by Paul Gregg.
His work has occurred fleetingly, and been installed permanently in cities and towns throughout Ireland, Europe and the U.S. This survey cannot retrieve the artist's original installations. Instead, it represents his practice through tests, documentation, and technically unsparing assemblies.
For instance, Inductive Probability includes a decommissioned rocket, photographs lit by explosions from magnesium mortar charges, and a model for a glass planet Earth. The exhibition covers twenty years' worth of Paul Gregg's perennially sited machines. More

Butler Gallery
The Butler Gallery is delighted to present outawack, an exhibition by the USA based Irish artist, Helen O'Leary.
Helen O'Leary is a highly inventive artist who has been exhibiting her work for over twenty years. This is her first exhibition in Ireland since 2006. O'Leary's new work delves into her own history as a painter, with both subject matter and raw material rooted in the ruins and failures of her studio. By taking apart canvases, wooden stretchers, panels and frames she turns the conventions of painting literally inside out. Humorous and enigmatic, these fragments that make a new whole, bare their histories as well-worn objects while at the same time are infused with newfound energy and dynamism. More
