The textile paintings in this exhibition were made by Mbuti pygmies of the Ituri rainforest in the Congo. The material, bark cloth, is created by men in the tribe; it is then decorated by women, using a mixture of charcoal and natural pigments. The designs are related to body painting and have traditional symbolic meanings; the textiles themselves are used as garments and objects of trade. More

Áras Éanna
Visitors to the Aran Islands throughout the late nineteenth
and early twentieth century have been astonished by the
manner in which the islanders dressed . The style that evolved
here reflected available local materials and the varying, often
harsh climate on the island.
Now a group of women on Inis Oírr have assembled an
exhibition using old items of clothing and embellished them with
photographs and stories to describe island customs associated
with their traditional dress. More

Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane
In February 2012 the Complete Piano Sonatas of Haydn series began. This project is taking place at the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin, as part of their Sunday @ Noon Concert series and will consist of twelve recitals over a period of two years. All of Haydn's piano sonatas will be performed by Fionnuala Moynihan and Irish pianist Peter Tuite. There will be a joint opening and closing recital. Each pianist will then perform five solo recitals each. This promises to be a wonderful series. The Complete Piano Sonatas of Haydn have never been performed in Ireland before. The collaboration between two of Ireland's most celebrated pianists makes this series all the more unique. Recital no.3 in the series will be performed by Dr. Fionnuala Moynihan. More
