Following on from their sell-out success with The Magic Flute this winter, Opera Theatre Company return with Claudio Monteverdi's Baroque masterpiece Orfeo. Although over 400 years old, the exquisite music and dramatic power of this earliest operatic gem remains undiminished. With a powerful cast including Oliver Mercer, Daire Halpin and Sadhbh Dennedy, Orfeo is directed by Ben Barnes and will be sung in English, with Joe Vanek on set design and John Comiskey on lighting.
This performance is sponsored by Mr and Mrs Frank Lanigan. More

Joyce's final masterpiece provides the jumping off point for this adventurous mix of improvised music and film.
Performed by vocalist Dorothy Murphy, Barcelonian film maker Héctor Castells, and clarinettist Seán Mac Erlaine, this piece is an abstract homage to one of the English language's great works of abstraction.
Using improvisation, repetition, collage and a personalised, devised language, Is now all seenheard then forgotten? reflects Finnegans Wake without any overt attempt to translate the text. These three innovative artists work with the poetic elements of the book, creating a sound-and-image atmosphere, which is both beautiful and otherworldly. More

NDV has come up with a programme designed to reward the seasoned listener but also, and more especially, to appeal to people who wouldn't normally choose to go to choral concerts.
This time the choir will sample composers (Monteverdi, Morley, Victoria) from the Renaissance "golden age" of fabulous choral music, present exciting pieces by Irish composers working right now (Rhona Clarke, Eibhlis Farrell, Kevin O'Connell), and reprise a selection of the breathtaking contrasts experienced last November by alternating movements from masses by Palestrina (b. 1525) and Giles Swayne (b. 1946!).
All that plus three world premières and a few little surprises, some of them in honour of the season: "Summertime, and the living…." More

South Korean born pianist and child prodigy Young-Choon began the study of the piano at the age of four and gave her first full recital when she was seven. She played the Beethoven Piano Concerto No.1 with the Seoul Symphony Orchestra at the age of nine. She studied at the Juilliard School in New York and later gained the highest masters degree at the Hochschule in Munich. Giving over 50 concerts each year in Europe, Scandinavia, South Africa and the United States, she is currently recording the complete Mozart piano concerts for Dechesne World Records in Belgium. Her technical ability is beyond dispute. This 90-minute performance in an intimate theatre setting will present Mozart and Beethoven's sonatas with Young-Choon's inimitable flair. More
