Poems Upstairs: Tim Cunningham, Rody Gorman, Teresa Lally & Michelle O’Sullivan

The Kavanagh Trust exists to recognise and assist Irish poets who have published work of merit and to help them to concentrate on writing. Four poets whose work has earned the Patrick and Katherine Kavanagh Fellowship, in 2013 and 2014, will read at this Poems Upstairs event.

The poet Adrian Mitchell described Tim Cunningham’s poems as being “as various and fascinating as the animals in Noah's Ark”. Born in Limerick, Tim now lives in Essex, and has published five collections, the most recent of which is Almost Memories (Revival Press, 2014). 

Rody Gorman’s poetry is recognised for its concise energy and power. Born in Dublin, he now lives in the Isle of Sky and writes in English, Irish and Scottish Gaelic. Chernilo,selected Irish and Scottish Gaelic poems, was published in 2006.

Teresa Lally is from Mayo and now lives in Inchicore. She published her first collection,Doll, in 2011.

Michelle O’Sullivan’s poetry has been praised for its ability to conjure for its readers enchanting entanglements of water and light. Michelle lives in Mayo and her first collection, The Blue End of Stars (The Gallery Press) won the prestigious Shine/Strong Award. 

Poems Upstairs is Poetry Ireland’s monthly poetry club offering Dublin’s poetry and culture fans a convivial place to enjoy great poetry. The series takes place in the new Books Upstairs premises on D’Olier Street and includes readings by established poets, well-known special guest readers, the very best of new Irish poetry and an entertaining live music mix. Tickets include a glass of wine.
